Museum

The History Museum of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) was established on 4 January 1985.

The Regulations on the UNEC History Museum, which has operated as an institution with independent legal status in terms of its exhibition standards and collection management system since 2001, were registered on 16 July 2000 with the Baku Registration Department for Legal Entities of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan and approved by the University’s Academic Council on 4 November 2000.

The University History Museum performs a number of important social functions, including documentation, preservation, research, education, and contributing to the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning. In carrying out these functions, extensive use is made of the museum’s core collections. The museum comprises seven main collections, including 1,500 primary items and 500 auxiliary items.

A corner has been established in the museum featuring soil brought from the districts where 27 UNEC students and graduates were martyred during the Patriotic War. Additionally, portraits of the martyrs, painted by a UNEC student, are displayed there.

Preservation of Cultural Heritage

The UNEC Museum preserves the educational and scientific heritage of both the University and Azerbaijan as a whole, safeguarding documents, exhibits, and historical artifacts for future generations. By reflecting the lives and contributions of individuals who have played significant roles in the University’s history, the Museum provides students and visitors with exemplary role models. In doing so, it contributes to the promotion of national identity and patriotic values.

Formation of Public Memory

The Museum plays an important role in shaping society’s collective memory. Knowledge about the University’s history and achievements influences public perceptions of the nation’s educational legacy. By bringing together individuals from diverse age groups, the Museum fosters social interaction and engagement. At the same time, it serves as a platform for collaboration with other museums, academic institutions, and public organizations.

Tourism and Promotional Function

The UNEC Museum contributes to enhancing the University’s public visibility and to its development as an attractive destination for both local and international visitors. Its tourism and promotional function encompasses openness to the broader community, both within and beyond the University, supporting the formation of UNEC’s institutional image and showcasing its place within the educational history of Azerbaijan.

A Center of Interest for Visitors

The Museum represents a rich and engaging source of information for local and international delegations, student groups, and tourists visiting UNEC. Visitors gain direct insight into the University’s history, stages of development, and its role within the educational system. This, in turn, supports UNEC’s recognition at both national and international levels.
